Free Letter 0 Worksheets
In this post, I’m sharing the letter Oo worksheets I created for students. I have used these with my homeschool kiddos, but they also work great for teachers in the classroom. Depending on which sheet you print, the skills are appropriate for pre-k through second grade. You’ll notice that many of the sheets offer multiple skill practice, which helps with retaining letter recognition. All of my worksheets are free to download and print for personal use.
Letter Oo Identification
Luckily, the letters Oo are fairly easy for little ones to identify at a young age. That being said, there are some tricky letters of the alphabet that look similar to capital and lowercase Oo that can throw off some kids. On these identification worksheets, I tried to use a mixture of letters that look somewhat similar to our target letter. This helps teachers determine whether or not a child has truly mastered recognition of Oo.
You could have your students color, paint, or use dot markers to complete the worksheets. These handouts work great in centers (work stations), whole group, or small group settings. I also included a capital O and lowercase o sorting sheet, which promotes fine motor skill practice.
Letter Oo Handwriting
Similar to identifying letter O, students typically don’t have a difficult time forming the letter. Still, it’s important to give them practice at drawing the capital and lowercase versions on lined paper. My second grader still works on correctly writing her letters on lined paper. So you could use these over multiple grade levels.
You’ll notice I included a box of letters at the top of each sheet. This creates a quick reinforcement of target letter recognition since students have to differentiate the letters Oo from similar looking ones.
Short O Worksheets
Finally, I am including the letter o sound sheets that focus on the short /o/ sound. Two of the worksheets are geared toward initial /o/ while the other two handouts feature medial /o/.
Some of these also reinforce fine motor skills like cutting and gluing, which is so important for young children. My students always love to take time coloring the images on the pages as well.
