Free Letter A Worksheets
These Letter A Worksheets are a must-have for any homeschool mom or classroom teacher! They make great “Letter of the Week” worksheets and can be used to review letters as well.
When I taught preschool, we introduced the letters in alphabetical order – typically one letter per week. As a kindergarten teacher, I focused on multiple letters each week that weren’t necessarily in order of the alphabet. Whichever way you plan to teach letters, these worksheets come in handy as supplemental, review, and enrichment activities.
All of my worksheets are easy to download as PDF files. You can print as many copies as you need to use with students in your classroom or at home with your own kids!
Letter A Identification
I’m grouping the worksheets based on skill level, so I’ll start with the identification sheets. These printables feature capital A and lowercase a letter searches. I also included a capital and lowercase Aa letter sort.
These worksheets are suitable for a wide range of ages, including toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners. When I taught kindergarten, I typically used sheets like this for morning work, supplemental activities, or differentiated learning groups.
Letter A Handwriting
In addition to the letter identification sheets, I created letter A handwriting printables. I purposely included a lined place at the top for students to write their names. Children who are working on writing letters usually need name writing practice as well. This reinforces the importance of using the top, middle, and bottom line to write their names.
Each worksheet displays a large letter with directions for correct formation. You’ll also notice a small box at the top where students can identify the focus letter.
Short A Worksheets
Finally, I created letter A sheets that focus on the short /a/ sound. The top two sheets feature initial /a/. Students can circle or cut/glue pictures that begin with the letter sound. The bottom two sheets cover medial /a/. These include pictures that have the short /a/ sound in the middle.
These letter sound sheets are appropriate for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and even first graders who need a review of prior skills taught.
I am in the process of creating letter worksheets for the entire alphabet, so check back soon if the letter you need isn’t available yet. You can also sign up for my newsletter to get notified of new free printables as I create them.
