Free Letter I Worksheets

multiple Letter i worksheets on wooden plank background

If you’re teaching at home or in a classroom, these Letter Ii printables are exactly what you need! I put together several sheets that help kids identify and write both capital I and lowercase i. I also included pages where students can pick out the initial and medial /i/ sound in pictures. Everything is free, so you can print and use any of the worksheets with your kids!

Capital and Lowercase Ii

The first batch of worksheets has kids pick out the letter Ii from a mix of other letters. My kids like grabbing different art supplies to fill in the bubbles where the Ii is hidden. We’ve used everything from finger paints to crayons to dot markers to finish these pages.

You’ll also find a Letter Ii worksheet where kids sort capital I and lowercase i. It gives them a chance to practice cutting and gluing the little letter tiles into the right spots, which is great for fine motor skills. I usually use these with pre-k and kindergarten kids, but they work fine for toddlers who are just starting to learn their letters too.

Letter I Handwriting Sheets

In addition to the letter identification sheets, I created a set of handwriting practice pages focused on the letter I. Each worksheet begins with a lined area where students can write their names, giving them a little extra practice with that skill as well. This layout also encourages children to use the top, middle, and bottom lines correctly as they learn to form their letters.

Every worksheet highlights a big letter I with guided steps for proper formation, along with a small space at the top where students can recognize and circle the featured letter.

Short /i/ Sheets

To finish off, I created worksheets for the letter I that focus on the short /i/ sound. The first two pages emphasize the initial /i/ sound, giving students the chance to circle or cut and paste pictures that start with that sound. The following two sheets turn attention to the medial /i/ sound, showcasing images where the short /i/ appears in the middle of the word.

These phonics exercises work well for preschool, kindergarten, and even first-grade students who need extra practice with familiar skills.
